This was our first time at a Georgia state park, and we were pleasantly surprised how well run and maintained this place is. The staff is friendly and go out of their way to make your stay as pleasant as possible. As an example, when we were checking in, we were asked if there was anyone over 62, I answered yes, and she gave us the parking pass for free, and gave us the senior citizens discount which credited our charge card $100. Nice way to start out our visit.
Mistletoe State Park is located in northern Georgia between Atlanta and Augusta and sits on a peninsula on the Clarks Hill Lake, also known as J Strom Thurmond Reservoir. The park is known for being one of the best bass fishing spots in the country, although I don’t think there was much fishing going on during our stay with the temperatures fluctuating between high 20’s and mid 50’s.
There are 92 campsites with water and electric. Our site had FHUs which I think is the only one other than the Camp Hosts. All sites have a picnic table, fire ring, and grill. There are also ten cottages on the lake that can be rented.
Regardless of the cold weather, our two-week hide in the woods was pleasant and peaceful. And we would stay here again if we were back in the area. As for you, if you’re looking for a great State Park, definitely check out Mistletoe, you won’t regret it.

We have driven by this state park but never camped there. It looks very nice. We’ve never had a bad experience at a Georgia State Park. While you were there did you get a chance to drive around any of the Corps of Engineers Campgrounds near there? We enjoyed camping at Petersburg COE and Winfield COE. We don’t normally stay at state parks because we need FHUs (hard to do laundry in the coach without it). I think this site is mostly used for the camp host since the hosts were on other two FHU sites on the other side. That being said it’s a great state park and we really enjoyed our two weeks hiding out in the woods. Definitely would return if we’re back in the area.
I understand about full hookups! During our travels we found a few state parks and COE parks that had them.
