After leaving the Indiana disaster we made our way east to visit with family for the rest of the summer. Since I also had to work during our journey east, we chose to travel one day and park for two, thereby taking 11 days to cover the 700+ miles.

Our first “family “stop was at New York City North / Newburgh KOA in Plattekill NY. This is the campground we always stay at when visiting Debbie’s son who lives in Wappinger Falls. There’re not many campgrounds in the area that we fit into that have full hook ups, so it is what it is. The sites are tight, and the water pressure is on the low side, but the have cable and decent WIFI.

One of the highlights of our week here was the Hudson River tour aboard the Pride of the Hudson. We went from Newburgh down to West Point and back. It was narrated so we learned a lot about the area.

We left a day early because of a forecasted severe storm and traveled to Aces High RV Park in East Lyme Connecticut to visit with the girls and our granddaughter who live in Groton. When visiting here we used to stay in Rhode Island, but this time we decided to try a new place because we couldn’t get a reservation. Boy did we luck out! Aces High is a much better place. This will be our new stop when visiting this area.

In addition to me and the girls working every day, we did find time to do a lot of fun things, and some days of not so fun things like repairs and maintenance.

The convection oven died and had to be changed, there was a couple of roof leaks that had to be addressed, the office exhaust fan motor also died and had to be replaced, and the 30 or so routine maintenance items that were very late and need to be caught up. 

One day Emily’s parent took us out for lunch on their pontoon boat on Hopeville Pond. I would have thought we were on a lake, but I learned that in Connecticut the only difference between a pond and a lake is the depth of the water. 

The girls decided to go swimming. We were just a happy to be on the water having lunch, which was really good.

Another day Jenna and Emily treated us to a cruise aboard the Schooner Argia. I’ve been on a lot of different boats but never a schooner. It was a great adventure, unfortunately the wind wasn’t on our side that day. But still it was a great time and afterwards we went to Abbott’s in Noank for lobster. 

We really enjoyed our visit with everyone this summer. We are now back in New Jersey for a doctor appointment and to see more family before heading south to St. Augustine.
