It’s been a rough winter

And all I can say about it is

Now I understand that it was the worst weather this area has had in the past five years, and I thought we were ready for anything, but it was a tough few months and expensive.
First, our furnace. I thought I was smart in replacing the core with a new one that was the unit recommended by Suburban. And if we were down south it may have worked better, but it was rated 10,000 BTUs smaller than what was originally installed. Thank God I found a reliable Mobile RV Service that found the newer version of the original and replaced it and the propane regulator since that seemed to crap out at the same time. Everything has been working great and the new furnace doesn’t seem to work as hard as the previous one.
Unfortunately, that was only the beginning. During a very cold spell our batteries froze, which I replaced the house and coach batteries, but after a day, the house batteries were dead again. We determined that the inverter was fried. Our service tech showed me a trick using a battery charger, and we were able keep the lights on until the new inverter arrived and was installed. The service tech even made two follow up visits at no charge to make sure everything was working.

Now that spring is here, we have been making a few upgrades to the site. Mainly extending the patio to the office and installing concrete blocks for the propane tanks.

I also installed new stairs by the two doors so it’s easier for Debbie to get in and out. She has had some medical issues since last November and they will help a lot once the weather warms up more.

I also installed the Starlink dish on a ladder pole so that I can point in in the correct direction. The other mount was not adjustable and the Starlink worked better than the 5G connection but it wasn’t as fast as advertised. Now I’m getting a lot faster WIFI speeds.

Lastly, since it doesn’t appear that we will be traveling anymore, I have decided to shut down this blog effective 30 days from now. If you want to stay in touch, you can find me on Facebook.
It’s been fun.
