Thankful that Debbie’s health is continually improving 

Thankful we are both staying safe and healthy during this pandemic.

Thankful that we are traveling again and seeing new views outside our window every couple of weeks.

It’s been a while since our last post. Because of the pandemic, it feels like the blog has turned into a park review format since most, if not all, of the local attractions are closed. However, we have been able to continue our travels and now take more scenic drives to check out the areas we have been staying at.

We left Rhode Island and made our way to our New Jersey stop for supplies and to see family and friends. Unfortunately, due to schedules and emergencies (not ours), we weren’t able to see anyone during our visit. Which is ok because there is always next year.

After New Jersey we drove south and took the Cape May Ferry across the Delaware Bay and made a stop at Chincoteague Island at the Chincoteague Island KOA Resort (clink link for review) It was a good, quiet (except for the weekend Halloween events), two weeks. And we were able to take a couple of drives onto the island to look for the horses.

We left Chincoteague Island and continues south across the Bay Bridge Tunnel and stopped at Roanoke Island, which is between the outer banks and the mainland. We stayed at The Refuge on Roanoke Island (review coming soon), which is a hidden gem of a campground. We never went back over the bridge to OBX during our stay since we saw all those attractions when we visited the area in 2016. 

Roanoke Island basically has two towns, Wanchese and Manteo. The campground is in Wanchese and is primarily residential and the fishing industry. Everything else, stores, restaurants, etc. is in Manteo.  Our visit was primarily to relax and support the local restaurants as much as possible. It was easy to do with the view behind us.

Sadly, we left Roanoke Island continuing south and stopped at Emerald Isle at the Holiday Trav-L-Park Resort (review coming soon). Emerald Isle is basically a residential Island with little or no “tourist” attractions. However, that’s fine with us since they do have some great restaurants (which we supported) and one of the best Publix Grocery stores we ever shopped at and where we got our Thanksgiving dinner from this year. For the past three years we always picked up our Thanksgiving dinner from Cracker Barrel, and we still could have this year since one is about 20+ miles from here, but we decided to change it up and we were pleasantly surprised how good it was. Sorry no pictures, but our stomachs were very full after the dinner, and we have plenty of leftovers for those next day sandwiches.

Tomorrow we continue south to North Myrtle Beach for a couple of weeks, and then onwards to our final stop for this year at Hilton Head Island.
