Fort Pierre South Dakota

Now that our driver licenses and residency is renewed, we are at our last stop in South Dakota, Fort Pierre.

Today we took a drive today around Fort Pierre and then across the Missouri River into Pierre.

Crossing the Missouri River there is the train bridge that first spanned the Missouri River in 1907 and is only one of three railroad bridges crossing the Missouri River in South Dakota.

Pierre is the capital city of South Dakota. The population was 14,091 at the 2020 census, making it the second-least populous state capital in the United States, following Montpelier, Vermont. It is the ninth-most populous city in South Dakota.

The Fighting Stallions Memorial was constructed by the people of South Dakota as a lasting memorial to eight South Dakotans who perished in an airplane crash on April 19, 1993. They were on an economic development mission to save the largest agricultural processing employer in South Dakota.

This is a nice area to stop for the week for work.

Until next time

Safe travels
