A nice day for a Sunday drive

With Debbie feeling better and the weather being nice, we decided to take a short drive to the Watch Hill Lighthouse.

Watch Hill is s an affluent coastal village in the town of Westerly . It sits at the most-southwestern point in all of Rhode Island. It came to prominence in the late 19th and early 20th century as an exclusive summer resort, with wealthy families building sprawling Victorian-style “cottages”

In order to get to the lighthouse, there is a very narrow private road that they only allow handicap and senior citizens to use (there’s a guard at the entrance), all others have to park in town and walk. We were lucky and got to drive in and park. We spent a long time just watching the boats out in the water and people catching fish off the rocks.

The lighthouse has an interesting history which can be found on the Watch Hill Lighthouse Keepers Association website.

It was a great day.
