Family, friends, and fall weather

We’ve been in Plattekill New York this week visiting Debbie’s son, Alex, who lives on the other side of the Hudson River in Wappinger Falls.

We arrived on Saturday and received a text from our good friends from New Jersey, Sal and Debbie, who were also in the area for a family gathering and staying at the same KOA campground. They invited us over to their site for happy hour, after we set up and said they had plenty of food. Which was an understatement.  If you knew Sal and Debbie, you would know that they always put out a huge spread, and this time they did not disappoint. They had sausage and peppers, roasted pork, chicken, mac and cheese, stuffing (I can go on and on, but you get the idea). We had a great time meeting their family and catching up on our adventures. This isn’t the first time we both met up while traveling. Last year when we were on our way to my Navy reunion, we happened to both be staying at Massey’s Landing in Delaware the same weekend and went out to breakfast on the day they were leaving.

Sal & Deb, thanks again for the hospitality. It was great to see you both, meet your family, and we look forward to meeting you on the road again sometime.

The rest of the week, other than working was spent with Alex, at his house which back up to Wappinger creek, just downstream from the falls.

Alex’s dog Frankie is a bundle of energy who loves to play catch with a deflated football.

Alex is a program lead with Project Healing Waters, an organization that brings fly fishing programs to disabled active military service personnel across the Veterans Affairs Healthcare System, and recently returned from a trip to Alaska. He really enjoyed Alaska and looks forward to returning one day. Which is good for us because it will give us an excuse to head up there to visit.

During the week we went to dinner at a few local restaurants, if you’re ever in the area you should check out County Fare, Billy Joe’s Ribworks, and Joe Willy’s Seafood Restaurant. All had very good food.

Fall is upon us now; the leaves on the trees are changing, and the nights are cooler to the point that we are now running the heater. Time to continue southbound to this year’s winter home in Florida. Our next stop is Jonestown PA. Nothing exciting, just to work for the week.

Until then,
