January 6, 2018 – South to St. Augustine
Weather: Sunny 50 degrees
Today we packed up and traveled south 185 miles to St. Augustine Beach KOA, where we’ll be for two weeks.
January 7, 2018 – Checking out St. Augustine
Weather: Sunny to partly cloudy high 50s
Set up the office today.
Ran some errands and then took a ride into St. Augustine to check out the area. Very cool looking city.
Had dinner at the Conch House Restaurant. I had panko crusted Mahi with spinach over rice, and Debbie had Shrimp Anastasia (shrimp over pasta). We shared a piece of Key Lime pie for desert – good meal
January 13, 2018 – Coddi gets a bath and we take a trolley tour
Weather: Mostly cloudy low 50s
Yesterday, I saw a mobile detailing service washing a rig a few sites from ours. I went over and talked to the owner and was able to get him to schedule us for this morning.
Bright and early, Sikes Detailing Company showed up and went right to work. A couple hours later Coddiwomple was nice and shiny again.
Afterwards, Debbie and I went on the trolley tour of St. Augustine. This tour uses different tour buses then what we rode on in Savannah. They are open on all sides and with the cooler (cold) weather, it was not fun. If we’re ever back in the area, we’ll have to plan on doing it when it’s warmer.
January 15, 2018 -Womple gets customized
Weather: Windy and cold – low 50s
Debbie has always used a small step stool with a piece of rope to get in the driver’s side. Not the most convenient method, but it worked. I looked into getting a set of automatic running boards installed and talked to a mechanic in Galveston, but he told me it was a waste of money since they would only come down 2 inches more than the fixed running boards we had installed.
Being hard-headed (stubborn), I found a place in Jacksonville that customizes Jeeps for off road use and last week drove up to talk to them. It turns out the guy in Galveston didn’t know what he was talking about (even though he was a dealer for the running board). So today I went back to Jacksonville to have them install the running boards.
It took six hours, but in the end, we are completely happy with the work done by 4 Wheel Parts and it’s much easier now for Debbie to get in and out. The new AMP-Research running boards automatically drop down when you open the door, then when the door closes, they automatically retract. They also have LED lights for when it’s dark outside.
Well worth the money spent. Now I just need to find someone to install the baseplate for the tow bar.
