Maiden Voyage – Day 2 – Pownal Vermont to Boothbay Maine

Leaving Pine Hills Campground, we drove into Bennington Vermont to pick up Route 9 heading east. The 48 mile stretch between Bennington and Brattleboro is known as the Molly Stark Scenic Byway. We passed rich farmlands and forests as we made our way up and over the Green Mountains, peaking at Hogback Mountain, elevation 2,409.

Since we again left later than we planned, we arrived at Shore Hills Campground just as the sun was setting. We originally reserved a pull-through site to accommodate a 50-amp Georgetown Motorhome, however because the FR3 we ended up renting was a 30-amp motorhome, the only site that would accommodate us was a back-in site.

Backing in a 30-foot motorhome between trees is a tricky maneuver, especially at sundown when it’s getting dark. Surprisingly, with Debbie directing and using only hand signals, we backed the rig in perfectly on the first try. Again, those YouTube videos we watched really helped!

It was a grueling 254-mile day, and we were exhausted. After a quick bite to eat it was time to turn in for the night.
