Maiden Voyage – Day 1 – Homebase to Pownal Vermont

Today we traveled 242 miles of mostly highways to Pownal Vermont. The trip took a little longer than expected because we stopped for lunch and gas.

A little disappointed with the FR3’s air-conditioning. Granted it was in the low 90’s all day, but it was barely cool inside even though we were running both the engine AC and main AC. As for the way the FR3 handles, it drives well, a little harder than I thought it would, and it does sway a bit especially when an 18 wheeler passes. Also, it’s a dog going up hills with both Ac’s running, and the gas mileage was really bad.

All in all, I still think it’s the perfect size RV for someone like me who is just starting out and has never done this before. So that’s enough complaining for now.

We’re spending the night at Pine Hill Campground. It’s a nice and quiet campground with a central pond. There’s not too many campers  here today, the park’s probably only 1/3 full, which is nice after a long drive.

The only downside to this place is the WIFI. The campground wifi is very slow, and my Verizon MIFI is non-existent. As for the cell, I can only get one bar and no data. It’s probably a another good thing after a long drive.

Tonight’s dinner was great. 2″ thick steaks cooked on the grill with zucchini and corn on the cob. Yum Yum.

Tomorrow we push on to Maine. Our plan is to take the scenic route with less highways and more back roads.

Can’t wait to get to those lobsters!
